A research project (2021-2024), coordinated by the University of the Arts Helsinki, aimed to broaden perceptions of language and learning.
The project investigates how embodied language learning, combined with art-based approaches, can support the renewal of pedagogical practices across diverse learning environments. It also aims to stimulate critical discussion about how the structures of education could be modified and reformed to respond to societal changes. The Kone Foundation, the Svensk-Österbottniska samfundet, and the Harry Schauman Foundation fund the project.
Riina has been part of the project as an artist-researcher. She has collaborated with dance artist Angela Aldebs as well as preparatory class students and their teachers. Riina's work in the project has focused on walking both as a research methodology and an artistic practice. For the participating children, the process has involved a combination of indoor and outdoor activities that allow them to experience Finnish urban nature in a multisensory way.
